I think it is worth mentioning generally how a person goes about identifying a group to work with on standards development; how for example would we figure out who is currently working on standards for doors or hardware? And what is generally the procedure when someone wants to volunteer to contribute to a standards activity? I posed these questions to my colleagues at ANSI.
In response, to find out whether a developer works within a particular area, the public can search the pdf file we post of ANSI-Accredited Standards Developers and their scopes. The lists include contact information at the standards developer along with the scope of activity.
Similarly, people can search for individual standards based on keywords. Contact information (including usually a website and a person) from the posted list of developers can be used to connect to a developer/specific standards activity.

I wanted to test this process out for myself. So here’s what I found: There are 5 groups working on door standards. BHMA (Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association); DASMA (Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association); NAAMM (National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturers); SDI ASC A250 (Steel Door Institute); WDMA (Window and Door Manufacturers Association). And all their contact information is shown at the link http://www.ansi.org/asd.
