Extended versions (EXVs) of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards provide comprehensive content and the reference document of an IEC standard into one easy-to-use document, making the user experience seamless, easy, and efficient.

What Is The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)?

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide standards developing organization (SDO) comprising national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). Its objective is to encourage international cooperation on all inquiries regarding standardization in the electrical and electronic fields.

What Is an IEC Extended Version (EXV)?

Certain standards are required to be read in tandem with another standard, which is known as a reference document. The extended version (EXV) of an IEC Standard facilitates the user to be able to consult both IEC standards simultaneously in a single, easy-to-use document. Specifically, the IEC EXV provides the user with the following:

  1. Comprehensive content of the IEC Standard
  2. The reference document of the IEC Standard

The reference document has its replacement or additions bolded, highlighted in blue, and/or in red font in the content of the IEC EXV document. The goal of the IEC EXV is to provide an efficient and seamless experience for the user to easily consult the compiled information of the IEC Standard and reference document together. Overall, EXVs provide the user with comprehensive content of the standard.
