Fourth Annual National Ladder Safety Month: Promoting Ladder Safety at Home and Work

The fourth celebration of National Ladder Safety Month will take place February 23-March 28. Each year, ANSI partners with the American Ladder Institute (ALI) – the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry and the founder and leader of this movement – to promote the importance of ladder safety and share resources for safe use of ladders at home and work.

 Why Ladder Safety?

More than 300 people die in ladder-related accidents each year, and thousands are injured. ALI believes ladder accidents are preventable with appropriate safety education, planning, and training.

National Ladder Safety Month is the only movement dedicated to the promotion of ladder safety. The different focus areas of National Ladder Safety Month are:

  • Week one: “What is Ladder Safety?”
  • Week two: Ladder Safety Training and Year Round Partners
  • Week three: Ladder Safety at Work
  • Week four: Ladder Safety at Home
  • Week five: Ladder Inspection and Disposal

Goals of this movement include lowering the ranking of ladder-related safety citations on OSHA’s yearly “Top 10 Citations List”, decreasing the number of ladder-related injuries and fatalities, and increasing the number of companies and individuals that inspect and properly dispose of old, damaged or obsolete ladders.

Join the Ladder Safety Movement This March

ALI makes participating in National Ladder Safety Month easy by offering accessible resources through the official marketing guide. There are a number of free safety materials on the National Ladder Safety Month website, including checklists, videos, infographics, and flyers.  Spread the word on ladder safety or discover what other organizations are doing on social media using #LadderSafetyMonth.

Organizations can also uphold ladder safety with ALI’s Ladder Safety Ambassador program. Ladder Safety Ambassadors are companies and schools that employ or enroll at least 10 individuals who participate in ALI’s Ladder Safety Training program and receive passing scores (90 percent or greater)—earning their ladder safety certification. ALI Safety Ambassadors receive a logo and exclusive access to a robust toolkit, helping spread the word about their status.
